Beach Beauty Essentials

I can’t be the only one who packs for “just in case.”

I wish I was the type to just go to the beach with a towel and no worries, but that’s never been the case for me. Even to the beach I pack for “just in case.” I don’t wear any makeup there because I’ve done that before and it’s just a pointless hot mess, but I do bring some basics for afterward. I’m the type to go to the beach and then explore the area I’m in and also eat out, so for that I like to be prepared!

I keep it super minimal, of course, because after all I’m by the water and it’s 2738283 degrees out.

Sunscreen – sunscreen is a must for before, during, and after the fact! I want to order Glossier’s invisible shield because I’ve heard good things about it (like the fact that it doesnt actually feel or smell like sunscreen), but until then I use Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 100+ which helps prevent sunburn and is light and shine-free.

Waterproof mascara – I’m actually not at all a fan of waterproof mascara particularly because of how difficult it is to remove, but I guess that’s the point. I love pretty lashes, so the more separated and extended I can keep mine the better! I’m enjoying the new L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Waterproof mascara in Blackest Black! If I’m not in the water, I’m probably sweating while I’m soaking up some sun so the waterproof factor lessens the chance of transfer.

Highlighter – I tan SO quickly and quite dramatically. I love being able to sheer out the top of my cheekbones with a subtle highlight to balance out the tan. I typically opt for a golden-based highlighter because it compliments my yellow undertone and olive complexion.

SPF lip balm – this shouldn’t come as a surprise because anything SPF goes while in the sun to protect from UV radiation. I love the Blistex medicated lip balm with SPF 15 and wear it daily (by the beach or not) and I’ll apply Glossier’s Gen G in Jam over top for a healthy hue of color.

Boy Brow – I wouldn’t bother with any brow pencil or powder by the water. Glossier’s boy brow in black is my best friend through these ventures because it’s truly an all-in-one product. It combs out my brows, gives them a hint of color, and keeps my hairs in place. I feel a lot more like myself when my brows are in their place!

Rose water – rose (or cucumber) water is so refreshing! I spritz this all over to cool down my face and chest, and also to smell good. It’s nothing overpowering. It has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce any redness due to irritated skin, and it’s great for your hair! It replenishes moisture.
Coconut oil – I couldn’t leave this behind. I absolutely hate dry, unkept looking skin. Skin tends to dry out more after sun exposure, too, so I moisturize with coconut oil when I’m all done with the water. Fun fact coconut oil can actually be used as a natural sun screen as well! But it only has an SPF of about 4, which blocks 75% of UV radiation and this makes it appropiate for about 45 minutes of sun exposure. You would need something with a higher level of protection at an all-day beach day, but it’s still nice to wear as a moisturizer or underneath it all.
